They really should have done this when they re-released the game. OK, I understand this is an old game but why couldn't Microsoft make a simple patch to allow widescreen support or at least the ability to run the game in a window.
Age of Kings is a definite improvement, but suffers from some historical inaccuracy that could have easily been fixed and is quite jarring if you are familiar with the civilizations of the time (for example, the Saracen civilization has priests instead of Imams - and don't even get me started on the Asian people). This product is published by the XPLOSIV label, which is a sort of budget label that specializes in re-releasing old games. Both are excellent and any fan of computer games should definitely play these games at least once. The first still is charming because you are playing from the stone age to the founding of Rome. You get three discs - one is the Age of Empires Gold Edition, the second is the Age of Kings (Age of Empires II), and the third is the Conquerors expansion for the Age of Kings. Age of Empires is a game that helped launch the real time strategy genre and is still very fun to this day.
I also love how I get the expansion for Age of Empires II, and the Gold Edition of the first Age of Empires game. Love this. If you like Warcraft 1-3, I'm sure you'll love this game. This is an excellent RTS game. There are so many scenarios you can do, and need I mention how you can create custom maps and scenarios.
Our grandson truly enjoys playing it. This is our 'second' time buying this. First one got misplaced.
The CDs (3 Of them) are nicely bundled. Only thing that bugs me is putting the Game CD everytime you want to play it. Got the box in time.
I am not sure why others reported this issue. I understand they are doing it to prevent pirecy, but still it bugs me a lot. May be my hardware was compatible.
I have always Loved AOE. Didn't face any issues with the drivers so far. I didn't try it on Vista so far.
AOE is Microsoft's gift to game lovers like us. I installed them in My XP Machine.
